Coronavirus Wednesday update: 5,192 new cases and 77 more deaths

Another 5,192 Minnesotans tested positive for the coronavirus and 77 more have died from COVID-19, the state Department of Health reported Wednesday.
The state’s rate of new infections, hospitalizations and deaths remains high, but continues to slowly decline from a mid-November peak.
Those whose deaths were reported ranged in age from their late 30s to more than 100 years old. Forty-four lived in long-term care, 32 in private homes and one in a group home.
Minnesota has lost 3,692 people during the pandemic. Another 59 are suspected to have died from COVID-19, but they never had a positive coronavirus test.
There are 327,477 Minnesotans who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since the virus arrived in March. Of those known infections, 286,219 people have recovered enough that they no longer need to be isolated.
Hospital space remains a big concern for state health officials. There have been 17,378 patients requiring hospital care, including 3,873 in intensive care units, since the pandemic began.
The latest statistics from the state Department of Health show 1,704 patients in hospitals across the state,Related Articles
