Coronavirus Monday update: 15 more Minnesota deaths and 5,801 new cases

Minnesota added 5,801 more coronavirus cases Monday and reported 15 more deaths, according to the state Department of Health.
The dead ranged in age from their early 60s to more than 100 years old. Five lived in long-term care and 10 in private homes.
The state’s death toll has reached 3,593 people, there are another 59 who are suspected to have died from COVID-19 despite no positive test.
Minnesota now has diagnosed 318,763 coronavirus cases. The seven-day test-positivity rate of 11.9 percent is down from a peak of more than 15 percent in mid-November.
Minnesota hospitals are treating more people than ever for COVID-19, with 1,840 patients statewide, including 392 in critical condition.

The state Department of Health reports there are just 95 intensive care beds and 132 regular hospital beds now available.
Gov. Tim Walz and Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm are expected to discuss the state’s ongoing response to the coronavirus pandemic at a 2 p.m. Monday news conference.
