Vikings guard Ezra Cleveland again misses practice, Brett Jones again could start

Vikings rookie guard Ezra Cleveland again missed practice on Thursday due to an ankle injury, putting him in jeopardy of missing a second straight game.
A source said there is concern about whether Cleveland could be ready for Sunday’s game against Carolina at U.S. Bank Stadium due to a “mild high ankle sprain,” and that Brett Jones could get his second straight start at right guard.
Cleveland was hurt early in a 19-13 win at Chicago on Nov. 16, but played the rest of the game. He sat out last Sunday’s 31-28 loss to Dallas at U.S. Bank Stadium, and was replaced by Jones, who did a solid job.
Also not practicing Thursday for the Vikings was tight end Irv Smith Jr. due to a groin injury. Smith sat out against the Bears before returning to face the Cowboys. He was limited in Wednesday’s walkthrough practice.
Returning to practice Thursday on a limited basis were safety Harrison Smith (neck), defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo (shoulder/concussion) and Dru Samia (not injury related) after they all had sat out Wednesday’s workout. Samia was activated Wednesday from the COVID-19 reserve list.
Wide receiver Adam Thielen remains on the COVID-19 reserve list after being placed on it Monday. Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Wednesday he didn’t know if Thielen will be able to play on Sunday.
