Friday coronavirus update: 65 more MN deaths, 2,737 additional cases

The death toll in Minnesota from COVID-19 reached 4,723 on Friday, with an additional 65 deaths.
State data also reports another 2,737 confirmed infections, increasing Minnesota’s total number of cases to 391,889. The actual number of cases is likely higher due to testing shortages earlier in the pandemic, state officials say.
Of Friday’s reported deaths, 35 were residents of long-term care or assisted living centers, according to Minnesota Department of Health data updated Friday morning.
Of the state’s total deaths since March, 3,070 were long-term care or assisted living center residents.
Beginning at midnight Saturday, some restrictions put in place by Gov. Tim Walz will loosen. Fitness centers and gyms can reopen at low capacity, but indoor dining for restaurants and bars will remain prohibited until Jan. 11. Amateur sports can also resume practices on Jan. 4.
HOW ARE PATIENTS DOING?

There were 360,868 patients on Friday that no longer need to be isolated as they have recovered enough, an increase from 358,667 Thursday.
So far, 20,323 Minnesotans have been hospitalized for the virus, including 4,383 in intensive care units.

WHO IS GETTING SICK?

Number of health care workers with COVID-19: 29,835
The age group with the most cases is 20- to 24-year-olds with 40,311 cases.
The age group with the most deaths is 85- to 89-year-olds with 894 deaths.
