South St. Paul native Alex Stalock out indefinitely with upper-body injury

While the NHL has yet to set a start date for the 2020-21 season, whenever the Wild do hit the ice, it appears they will do so without goaltender Alex Stalock.
The team announced Wednesday that the 33-year-old South St. Paul native is out indefinitely with an upper-body injury.
It’s no doubt a frustrating setback for Stalock, who was fresh off the best season of his career, finishing 20-11-4 with a 2.67 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. He was penciled in to be the backup this season to Cam Talbot, who signed a three-year, $11 million deal at the beginning of free agency.
In the meantime, Kaapo Kahkonen will more than likely slide in as the backup until Stalock is back at full strength. It will be a good opportunity for Kahkonen, 24, to further prove himself after going 3-1-1 with a 2.96 GAA and a .913 save percentage last season in his first NHL action.
The Wild also announced they have signed veteran goaltender Andrew Hammond to a one-year, two-way contract. He played for the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League a couple of seasons ago, splitting time between the pipes, and finishing 19-12-2 with a 2.81 GAA and a .910 save percentage.
